Suppose you are downloading a large file or installing any software that may take a long time to complete. So you can’t shutdown your computer until the task is finished. I think you will mess up with this if you face it regularly. Especially in night you feel sleepy and can not be awakened.
In this case you want your Windows to shutdown automatically after completing your download or installation process.I have seen people to use an extra software in this purpose but why to use any software when XP allows you to do it by making only two simple shortcuts?
How to create the shortcuts
- To create the first shortcut, right click on your desktop and then click on shortcutunder New.
- Now type shutdown -s -t 3600 in the box that has been opened. Here 3600 refers as the number of seconds after which you want to shutdown your PC.So in this example the windows will shutdown after 3600 seconds or 1 hour.
- Click ‘Next’ and name this shortcut as ‘Shutdown’.
- Now just double click on it to set your PC to shutdown after 1 hour.If you want to change the time line just right click on the shortcut ‘Shutdown’ and click ‘properties’.In the ‘Target’ option change the number of seconds as per your need.
If you want to cancel the shutdown process just create another shortcut type “shutdown –a” in the target location.Name it as “Abort” and just double click on it to cancel the shutdown process you have created before. So isn’t it very simple?
